About Colonial Oil & Gas

For over 65 years, Colonial Oil & Gas has striven to provide reliable and affordable products and service to our customers. Our goal has been to offer the latest, most cost effective products and information to adequately meet all of our customers energy needs. John Leach founded Colonial Coal Yard nearly a century ago. He began by delivering coal in the winter and ice in the summer. Colonial heated the homes of our neighbors and cooled the great hotels of the northern Catskills, which welcomed guests from around the world.

It was after World War II that Howard & Philip Leach took over their father's business and added heating oil delivery to its services. Soon thereafter, liquid propane was introduced in an effort to provide our customers with yet another energy option. As a family owned and operated business now spanning several generations, we started out in the coal and ice business and have expanded into a full retail fuel and service company serving both commercial and residential customers alike.

Colonial was known then for its dedication to its customers, a tradition that still holds true. As our customer base has grown, the area in which we now service has expanded to encompass Greene, Ulster, Dutchess, Delaware & southern Schoharie counties. Years of satisfied customer referrals have played a large part in our growth. Colonial Oil & Gas has over 50 employees and offers continuing education for office administration, delivery personnel and service technicians. Our delivery department offers several types of fuel including, #2 heating oil, K-1 kerosene, propane, diesel fuel and gasoline.

We have devised our Price Protection Plans to aid you in budgeting your energy needs. Our Prepay or Budgets are two such plans. The Prepay Plan may be right for you if you have funds on hand to lock into an affordable rate, thus securing sufficient gallons for the upcoming year. Our Budget Plan allows you to break down the projected gallons for the year into 10 affordable, monthly payments. You simply pay your scheduled monthly payment and your concerns about a large unplanned delivery are a thing of the past!

Colonial Oil & Gas boasts a full 24-hour Customer Emergency Service Department that specializes in everything from heating system repairs, to complete new heat installations, to your basic plumbing needs. We offer complete labor and material estimates free of charge. Colonial Oil & Gas is committed to providing optimum, affordable service.
